Jaguar S-Type Radio Code
The S-Type radio code belongs to the radio's serial number, and the radio will show you that serial: hold buttons 6 and 1 (or 6 and 2) together. I'd get the code from the serial first. Then enter it carefully: wrong tries start a waiting period, and too many lock the radio for good.

Safe to drive — only the radio is locked
The radio is locked, not broken. It plays again as soon as it gets the right code.
Which one applies to yours depends on your symptoms, your model year and what has already been done to it.
Likely causes, most common first
Read the check cost before the odds: a free check that rules a cause out beats a likely guess that costs money.
The radio needs the code for its own serial number
The code is tied to the radio, not to the car. Press buttons 6 and 1, or 6 and 2, together and the serial appears on the display — something like APJTM000123.
CODE on the display after the battery was disconnected or ran flat, for example after the car stood all winter. A radio bought separately always needs the code for its own serial.
Read the serial from the display, then look for the code in the car's paperwork: the key-code pack, or a credit-card-sized code card that came with the stereo manual.
Enter the code that matches the serial: from our free generator, from the paperwork, or from a dealer.
Too many wrong entries: the radio is in lockout
Each wrong code costs you. On the early radio a wrong entry means a 30-minute wait; on the 2002-on Premium Sound unit three wrong tries lock it for an hour. LOCKED 10 on the display means ten failed entries.
The radio refuses to take a code, beeps during entry, or shows LOCKED with a number.
Leave the radio on with the ignition on and wait out the timer before trying again, with the right code this time.
Wait out the timer and enter the correct code. A full lock, such as LOCKED 10, needs a Jaguar dealer.
The order to check them in
The point of the order is money: each step either rules a cause out or makes the next one worth doing. Green is free, amber costs a little, red is the one to arrive at last.
Get the code from the serial number
Hold buttons 6 and 1 (or 6 and 2) together to show the serial, then put it into our free generator at https://jagaux.com/radio-code/.
freeCheck the paperwork
The code may be in the key-code pack or on a code card with the stereo manual. The supplying dealer or a previous owner often kept the second card.
freeEnter it on the early radio
1999-2002 units: presets 1 to 4 set the four digits, one press per step, so six presses of preset 1 give a first digit of 6. Preset 5 stores the code.
freeEnter it on the 2002-on radio
With CODE showing, key the code in on the number pad; a beep means a mistake, so start again from there. If your unit has no usable number pad, the seek buttons may change each digit and MENU move to the next — worth trying.
freeAsk a dealer
Bring the radio's serial number and proof of ownership. Only a dealer can reissue a lost code or clear a radio that has fully locked.
dealer feeNext time, write it down
Keep the code in the handbook before any battery work or winter storage. The 2002-on unit's clock is set by holding MODE, then MODE again until CLOCK SET shows.
