Jaguar I-Pace Heater Not Working
With no engine, the I-Pace heats its cabin with a high-voltage coolant heater, an electric boiler, and that unit is the usual failure: cold air only, usually in the first cold snap, sometimes on a nearly new car. Weak rather than absent heat is often just Eco mode. Software updates don't revive a failed heater.
How bad is it · Safe to drive
Drivable, as long as the screen stays clear
Nothing is damaged by driving on. The battery heating runs from the same unit, though, so expect the range to drop noticeably in the cold.
Which one applies to yours depends on your symptoms, your model year and what has already been done to it.
Likely causes, most common first
Read the check cost before the odds: a free check that rules a cause out beats a likely guess that costs money.
The high-voltage coolant heater has failed
One HV heater warms both the cabin and the traction battery. It fails internally, with no coolant lost. Replacing it is a big job, about 8 hours with the high-voltage system powered down, and parts have often been on back order.
Cold air only on both sides even at HI, fan working normally. Battery pre-conditioning stops working too, so efficiency falls, for example to 1.8 mi/kWh against about 3 in normal use. A fault code B1DC5-93 may be stored.
Read the codes, or ask for a remote diagnosis through Jaguar Assist. The bulletin is SSM75185, high-voltage coolant heater internal failure.
Replacing the heater element (C2C42143) brought the heat back. Failures have repeated after a year on some cars, so keep the paperwork.
Eco mode and climate settings
Eco mode cuts the energy the climate system may use to a bare minimum, so heat feels weak rather than absent.
Some warmth, slow to build; cold air at knee level; the passenger side cooler than the driver's.
Switch to Comfort or Rain, Snow, Ice and set the climate to Auto.
Worth trying first: Auto with the temperature set a little higher, and pre-heating from the app while plugged in.
The air doors in the heater ducts
If the heater makes heat but a blend door doesn't move, the warm air never reaches the cabin.
Heat at some outlets or on one side only, or warmth arriving very slowly.
Compare the outlets and both sides at HI; a dealer can test the door actuators.
Worth knowing: a blend door replaced under warranty was the answer on one car.
The order to check them in
The point of the order is money: each step either rules a cause out or makes the next one worth doing. Green is free, amber costs a little, red is the one to arrive at last.
Drive mode and Auto
Out of Eco, climate on Auto, temperature a little higher.
freePre-heat while plugged in
Use the app timer so the cabin and battery warm from the mains.
freeCold air only at HI?
Cold air on both sides with the fan working means the HV heater, not a setting.
freeWatch the efficiency
A sudden drop in miles per kWh in the cold backs up a failed heater, because the battery isn't being warmed either.
