Jaguar F-Pace Infotainment Problems, Touch Screen
Know which system you have first: the 8-inch InControl Touch, the 10-inch InControl Touch Pro, or Pivi Pro on 2021-on cars. Most freezes and blank screens clear with a proper restart and current software; resets every few minutes that new software and a new screen don't cure point at the supply — the voltage quality module.
How bad is it · Safe to drive
Safe to drive, with care
The car drives normally. When the screen freezes you can lose the reversing camera and parking sensor display, so don't rely on them until it's back.
Which one applies to yours depends on your symptoms, your model year and what has already been done to it.
Likely causes, most common first
Read the check cost before the odds: a free check that rules a cause out beats a likely guess that costs money.
A faulty voltage quality module
The VQM keeps the infotainment supply steady. When it fails, the system shuts off and restarts every few minutes and can blank the instrument display too.
Resets while driving, the rear camera view popping up going forwards; software updates and a new touchscreen change nothing.
Ask for the supply to the infotainment to be checked before any more screens or software.
A new voltage quality module.
A buggy software release
Pivi Pro updates come over the air, and some releases bring faults of their own — OS 2.1.0a left the screen frozen when creating a profile.
The fault started right after an update.
Look at the software version and when it changed.
The next over-the-air update fixed it. A full user-data reset clears corrupted profiles in the meantime.
Old Touch Pro software on 2016–17 cars
Launch-era Touch Pro software froze, rebooted and lost the camera image. Later releases — the K385 campaign, the 2.5 update (K437) and the 2019 software — fixed most of it.
Four tiles in a square on the home screen means old software; three in a line means current.
Look at the home screen layout.
A dealer update to current software; it runs faster with fewer start-up crashes. Early updates could leave the unit dead, and then the control module in the boot was replaced.
A frozen system that needs a full restart
A hung system often just needs to shut down completely and start again.
Frozen map, radio or screen, everything else on the car normal.
Try the restart before anything else.
Pivi Pro: hold the volume roller until the screen goes blank, then let go. Older systems: switch off, lock the car and wait 10 minutes. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes is the last resort.
Over-the-air updates that keep failing
Pivi Pro won't install with a low 12 V battery or weak signal, and on a plug-in hybrid the traction battery needs about 25% charge.
Software unable to install, again and again; a fix you're waiting for never arrives.
Read the failure reason the screen gives.
Charge the 12 V battery, park with good signal or Wi-Fi, schedule the install, and it usually goes after a long drive. If an update was declined or failed, later ones can stop being offered; that needs a dealer.
The order to check them in
The point of the order is money: each step either rules a cause out or makes the next one worth doing. Green is free, amber costs a little, red is the one to arrive at last.
Identify the system
8-inch screen with physical buttons either side: InControl Touch. 10-inch with virtual buttons along the bottom: Touch Pro. 2021 on: Pivi Pro.
freeRestart it properly
Pivi Pro: hold the volume roller until the screen goes blank. Older: switch off, lock, wait 10 minutes.
freeCheck the software level
Old Touch Pro software is the first thing to fix on a 2016–17 car.
freeKeep the 12 V battery healthy
A weak battery causes electronic faults and blocks updates. Charge it before anything else.
cheapDelete user data
Pivi Pro: Settings, General, System restore, delete all user data. Older systems: delete personal data in settings.
freeConstant resets: the supply
If it reboots every few minutes on current software, have the voltage quality module checked before another screen goes in.
