Common questions
Which wire is the 12 V constant on the XK8 (X100) radio connector?
IC19 pin 1, wire colour NR (Brown with Red tracer). It stays live with the key out: this is the memory feed.
Which pin is the ground on the XK8 (X100) head unit connector?
IC19 pin 6, wire colour B (Black).
Which wire is the illumination feed on the XK8 (X100)?
IC20 pin 20, wire colour RU (Red with Blue tracer). It follows the panel lights and dims with them.
What are the speaker wire colours on the XK8 (X100)?
DRIVER DOOR SPEAKER (MID-BASS) + — pin 3, Y; LH REAR SPEAKER + — pin 4, W; RH REAR SPEAKER + — pin 5, WB; DRIVER DOOR SPEAKER (MID-BASS) – — pin 8, YR; PASSENGER DOOR SPEAKER (MID-BASS) + — pin 9, U; PASSENGER DOOR SPEAKER (MID-BASS) – — pin 10, UY; LH REAR SPEAKER – — pin 11, BG; RH REAR SPEAKER – — pin 12, YU.
What connector does the XK8 (X100) head unit use?
The head unit sits on IC19 and IC20. Jaguar colour codes are not the aftermarket standard, so match an adapter by pin number, not by wire colour.
Notes and caveats
How far the years hold. Pin data is verified for 2000–2003. The same head unit is fitted to the end of production in 2006; on a 2004–2006 car the table is expected to hold but is not confirmed.
Earlier cars differ. On 1997–1999 cars the radio sits on one connector, IC10, with a different wire set. Use the 1997–1999 sheet.
Premium system differs. On a car with the Premium system the speaker pins of IC19 are not wired at all: the head unit feeds a power amplifier in the trunk over the audio network on IC8, and the amplifier drives the speakers. Only pins 1, 2, 6 and 7 are used. This sheet is the Standard system.
Power feeds. Pins 1, 2 and 7 are all B+, and the fuse numbers move with the model year: 45, 46 and 23 on 2000, 43, 44 and 30 on 2001–2002, 45, 46 and 7 on 2003. Which of the three is ignition-switched is not stated.
* Pins 3, 8, 9, 10. Front speakers. Each front channel carries two speakers on the one pair – the door mid-bass and the fascia speaker, joined by splices ICS1–ICS4. On the driver side the fascia speaker is drawn the other way round: its + sits on pin 8 and its – on pin 3, while the door speaker + is on pin 3; the passenger side is in phase. The guide names these outputs by door rather than by side, and pairs the LH fascia speaker with the driver door, so the drawing is for left-hand drive.
** Pins 4, 5, 11, 12. Convertible colours; the speakers are the rear quarter speakers. On a Coupe the same pins carry WG on 4, BW on 11, WU on 5 and BO on 12.
