Automatic Fog Light Activation in Jaguar X-Type

If you want both the low beam and fog lights to turn on automatically in Auto mode (based on the sensor), here’s how you can do it.

First, check if you have the auto light function on the switch. It looks like this:

If the function is present, pull out the switch. There’s a latch at the top that you need to press. In other words, reach behind the switch, feel for the latch, press it, and the switch will come out easily.

We won’t need the switch itself. Disconnect it and set it aside for now.

We’ll need about a meter of thick wire. Unfortunately, I don’t remember which wire I used, but the thicker, the better. This wire will carry power to the fog lights!

Take a short piece of our wire and insert it as follows. It’s better to solder the exposed ends!

Now, take the longer wire (preferably with the exposed end soldered, or use a single-stranded wire) and insert it into the connector like this:

Connect the other end of the wire to the F17 fuse, as shown in the photo.

Put everything back in place and enjoy your new feature! 🙂

Results. Conclusions.

It’s a very simple modification, but now the fog lights will work automatically alongside the parking lights and low beams.

This means driving will be even safer, as you’ll be more visible on the road.

Please note that you are doing everything at your own risk. If you connect something incorrectly or if the wire is too thin, there’s a risk of the wire burning out! The wire should have a good contact with the wires in the connector.

It’s better to solder the exposed ends for a better connection! It’s advisable to consult an electrician for the installation. I am not responsible for any issues that may occur with your vehicle. Once again, all actions are performed at your own risk.

Any questions left? Or maybe you did it differently? Would you install such a modification for yourself? Share your thoughts in the comments!
