Step 1

Find the serial number

Last 5 digits of the serial

The serial is on the label of the radio unit and engraved in the metal case. You only need the last 5 digits.

On button radios without navigation, press PTY and Eject together — the radio shows its serial on the display.

M and 6 digits

Early S-Types (1999–2001) have a Ford 6000 CD radio. Its serial is the letter M followed by 6 digits, e.g. M123456.

You don't need to remove the radio: switch it on and hold buttons 1 and 6 (on some radios 2 and 6) for 2 seconds — the serial appears on the display.

Step 2

Enter the code

Alpine · 2002 onwards

Touchscreen or buttons

On the touchscreen, type the code and confirm. On button radios, enter the digits with the preset buttons as the display prompts you.

You have 3 attempts. After the third wrong code the radio shows PLEASE WAIT: leave it switched on for 30 minutes, and you get 3 more tries.

Preset buttons 1–4, then 5

Each of the buttons 1–4 sets one digit: every press adds one. For a code of 2300, press button 1 twice and button 2 three times. Then press 5 to confirm.

After 3 wrong codes, wait 30 minutes with the radio on. After 10 in total it shows LOCKED.

Radio code bypass: X-Type, S-Type and XJ (X350)

Many earlier Alpine radios in these three models skip the code with a three-button press. It works on radios with an AM/FM button, roughly up to 2005–2006, with or without the touchscreen.

  1. Turn the ignition on, so that the radio shows CODE.
  2. Press and hold >> (seek forward), A.MEM and PTY together for 2–3 seconds. If it doesn't react, hold >> first, then add A.MEM, then PTY.
  3. The display shows WELCOME and the radio plays — no code needed.

Later radios with a BAND button (about 2006 onwards) usually don't take the bypass — use the code by serial number above. The early S-Type with the Ford 6000 CD doesn't have it either. Video: button radio · touchscreen.
